Who I Am: Soul From Gothenburg

· My Story

If "Josefin" has ever stopped you in your tracks, you already know the voice. Before you pick a design, here's who I am, and how a singer from Gothenburg ended up on NPR's Tiny Desk.

Where do I come from?

I was born on 8 February 1988 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Before going solo I was one of the two singers in the soul band The Magnolia, alongside my friend Arvid Nero.

How did my solo career begin?

My breakthrough came in 2016 with "Lou Lou", from my debut EP Lovers, made with producer Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John. Astralwerks signed me that year and re-released the EP, and Bloodshot followed in 2017. That same year NPR Music filmed me for a Tiny Desk Concert.

Do I sing in English or in Swedish?

Both. My records move between the two:

  • About You (2018), in English
  • På svenska (2020), which simply means "in Swedish"
  • Epistlar (2021), six songs in Swedish, including "Josefin", my biggest song
  • Discomforts (2024), back in English

In 2025 I released Min vän och jag ("my friend and I") with Arvid Nero.

What else should you know?

I took part in TV4's Så mycket bättre in 2018 and again in 2022. In autumn 2023 I toured Swedish concert halls with Hommage på svenska, a tribute to Swedish song, and in late 2024 I played seven of Sweden's biggest arenas on The Discomforts Tour.

What do my songs sound like?

The voice. Deep, soulful and raw, whether I'm singing a quiet ballad or a full-band soul song.

The honesty. I've said Discomforts is about love and addiction, and my songs never pretend things are easy.
